I’ve seen in five days

She opted for sitting

in front of the fire,

starring out the window,

counting snowflakes.

a certain age

Women of a certain age

sometimes question

the wisdom 

of accepting invitations

from men decades younger.

 She does not.

when you hit a rough patch

when you hit a rough patch and when disappointment knocks you for a loop

when despair grabs your skinny little neck

and squeezes so tight that you can’t catch

a  breathe when all your bright ideas

are flattened in a heap gathering dust balls on the floor when messes and mistakes

pile up higher than clouds

when you can’t climb out or over

when you’re ready to scream

drop out give up jump off the edge

that’s when a familiar urge pushes

and prods you to start again

try try try it pleads

give it another shot

and you do 

you follow the wish the hope

the tiny possibilities

you whistle in the dark dance  through fear you snap photos make marks

doodles form your dreams

into  creative expressions

you do it because you believe in love

in unseen forces in magic

and because

giving up is not an option

that is the kind of

person you are

the kind of person

you intend to be
